We had tons of old car batteries to dispose of from an old house in Hilo. Turns out Mr K's accepted it and paid us for their value by weight. Super convenient, quick, and $.

I called to see if they were open and they were. Was a very seamless process. We emptied our cans already sorted. The nice guys that worked there helped. And we got our recycle monies and left.
