Hawai i Slam is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting local poets from the islands and hosting the nationally certified First Thursdays slam poetry competition. Founded by Kealoha, the first Poet Laureate Emeritus of Hawai i, it has become the largest registered poetry slam in the world, attracting up to 400 attendees.
First Thursdays showcases the best performance poets from Hawai i, along with live musicians, MCs, DJs, live painters, and national touring poets. The event is also home to the 2nd nationally ranked team in the National Poetry Slam competition, highlighting its significance in the poetry community.
