Daifukuji Soto Zen Buddhist Temple, also known as The Temple of Great Happiness, is a serene and welcoming temple located in Honalo, Kona, on the Big Island of Hawaii. Founded in 1914, the temple offers the teachings of the Buddha and Soto Zen practice to the community, providing a safe and peaceful environment for Buddhist study, practice, and other Dharma-related activities.
Inside the temple, visitors can find the enshrined historical Buddha Shakyamuni, along with the figures of Zen Master Dogen and Zen Master Keizan, founders of the spiritual tradition. The Kannon Hall houses the beautiful Hawaii Kannon Kwan Yin, the bodhisattva of great compassion, surrounded by 33 smaller Kannon statuettes representing various manifestations of compassion in the world. Visitors are invited to remove their shoes before entering the Kannon Hall, take pictures inside the temple, and spend a quiet moment in meditation.
