Founded in 1936 to serve residents who had been spurned by investor-owned utilities, Walton Electric Membership Corporation is a nonprofit electric utility that serves northeastern Georgia. It supplies energy to more than 100,000 accounts throughout 10 counties: Athens-Clarke, Barrow, DeKalb, Greene, Gwinnett, Morgan, Newton, Oconee, Rockdale and Walton.
