Even at its inception as a small sign shop in 1965, Clayton Signs has always serviced clients in a big way. Andy Willis founded the company on quality design, manufacturing, and installation of a variety of signage, with perhaps a bit more focus on billboards. Most letters were hand-painted, and neon was the rage. All the while, Andy forged life-long relationships with customers and wove close ties to the local community in Clayton County, just south of Atlanta. Their reputation for dependability and quality propelled Clayton Signs to dominance in their area and forced a move in 1978 to a larger facility in Lake City, Georgia. After all, outstanding signs are hard to hide. Mirroring Atlanta's growth, Clayton cast its influence wider and wider, building a strong presence throughout the Southeast. In 1980, the company purchased automated computer cutters and gained the national account for Chick-fil-A Restaurants. Other well-known names such as Childress Klein, JC Penney, Maytag, Jameson Inns, Texaco Xpress Lube, Coca Cola, Turner Field, Phillips Arena, GA Tech, The Varsity, CNN, Delta, Kauffman Tire, Kaiser Permanente, Roadway, and Moe's South West Grill followed. Today, Clayton Signs boasts technically advanced equipment and a fleet of crane trucks, as well as tractor-trailer transport.
