The Union County Historical Society, established in 1976, is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich history and culture of Union County, Georgia. Through memberships and donations, the society maintains three historic structures, including the 1899 Courthouse, and organizes cultural and educational programs such as musical concerts and the Mountain Heritage Festival.
Thanks to the efforts of the Union County Historical Society, the historic Union County Courthouse, designed by renowned architect J.W. Golucke, has been restored and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The society also operates the Old Courthouse Museum and the Mountain Life Museum, offering free admission and educational tours for school classes.
