Southern Poetry Review
Southern Poetry Review (SPR) is the second oldest poetry journal in the region, with its origins tracing back to Florida before moving to North Carolina and now Georgia. Established in 1958 by Guy Owen, the journal continues a tradition of editorial openness and responsiveness to writers, publishing poems from across the United States and abroad while maintaining a worldwide readership.
SPR reads submissions year-round and annually sponsors The Guy Owen Prize Contest, aimed at discovering and publishing some of the best contemporary poetry. The journal is supported in part by grants from the Georgia Council for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts, highlighting its commitment to fostering poetic talent.
