Snapping Shoals Electric Membership Corporation is a nonprofit, consumer-owned cooperative headquartered in Covington, Ga. It provides electric service to nearly 75,000 residential, commercial and industrial consumers in an eight-county area southeast of Atlanta. Its service area includes parts of Rockdale, Henry, Newton, DeKalb, Butts, Walton, Jasper and Morgan counties. In addition to its electric service, Snapping Shoals EMC also provides natural gas, surge protection, security systems and security lighting services to its customers, as well as customized commercial and industrial services. The corporation is an affiliate of the for-profit Snapping Shoals Energy Management Company. Snapping Shoals EMC was established in the 1930s and is governed by an 11-member board of directors.
