Savannah Association For the Blind

Savannah Association for the Blind, Incorporated ( SAB ) is a private, nonprofit agency serving the general public in southeastern Georgia and coastal South Carolina. The mission of Savannah Association for the Blind, Inc is to provide rehabilitation services designed to help blind and visually impaired individuals in all walks of life function independently in their homes and in the community. Currently, this mission is being addressed within the framework of interrelated Programs. The services provided are pre-vocational in nature and should be mastered prior to the commencement of any vocational or professional training. These services are designed to assist each person served to function independently in his/her home and in the community.These services are designed to help visually impaired people adjust and cope with their visual loss. Savannah Association for the Blind was established in 1963, when several blind persons met to seek a viable solution to their common need for specialized services. They met in churches, the Boy's Club, or anywhere they could until they formed a corporation under the laws of the State of Georgia in 1970. SAB has provided rehabilitation services on some level since 1963 and on a professional level since 1977 when several certified professionals were hired. Comprehensive Rehabilitation Training was expanded to include low vision services in 1986, and in 1995, training in each client's home was added for those living outside Chatham County.
