NAMI

Founded in 1979, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, also known as NAMI, a nonprofit organization serves individuals and families. It offers support, education and advocacy services, as well as Family-to-Family, Peer-to-Peer, NAMI Connection, and Hearts and Minds programs. The organization also provides educational programs for the development of life skills. It operates a helpline that offers information on topics related to schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and depression. The National Alliance on Mental Illness operates a store that sells books, brochures and posters. The center also publishes a magazine that provides information related to mental illnesses. It maintains the Multicultural Action Center, which offers emergency preparedness services during natural and other types of disasters.
