The Mascot Pecan Shelling Company started in 1955 as a gas station on Highway 301 south leading to Florida. The Mascot, as it was known, sold fresh pecans to travelers. Travelers not returning each year started writing the Mascot requesting mail order pecans. When the interstate system was finished, travelers stopped using the route that passed by the store and the demand for a gas station in the location diminished while the mail order business for pecans flourished. Today, in the location where Mascot originally was now stands the Mascot Pecan Shelling Company. It still offers the best quality pecans and pecan products for personal purchases, gifts, corporate gifts, wholesale and fundraisers. The company has a variety of pecan candies, such as chocolate covered pecans, cinnamon glazed pecans, glazed pecans and pecan caramel clusters.
