Founded in 1942, DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management provides safe drinking water and performs quality wastewater treatment. It is a division of Public Works Department. DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management has five internal divisions; administrative services, construction and maintenance, filtration and treatment, Geographic Information System/Global Positioning System mapping and system inventory, and technical and production services. The department operates and maintains major facilities, which include Scott Candler Filter Plant, Snapfinger Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant and DeKalb County Raw Water Pumping Station. Some of the projects completed by DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management include Scott Blvd-Peavine Creek Watershed Improvement Project Phase I and II, Heritage Heights Sanitary Sewer Repair/Replacement Project and Scott Candler Filter Plant Expansion.
