Montessori of Macon

Montessori of Macon is the only school in the middle Georgia area to offer the benefits of a Montessori education to children age 18 months through ninth grade. We are fully accredited by the American Montessori Society as well as the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Our teaching staff includes certified Montessori teachers who have been trained by accredited Montessori teacher training centers. Teacher training prepares our faculty to create dynamic, interactive learning environments which encourage each child to reason, cooperate, collaborate, negotiate, and understand. The Montessori teacher functions as a resource person, role model, demonstrator, record-keeper and meticulous observer of each child's development. Montessori of Macon continues to add specialty teachers to enhance the education of our students. In additional to the traditional academic subjects, art, foreign languages, and music are a part of our curriculum. Organizational Structure of the School Montessori of Macon is a parent cooperative formed as a non-profit corporation under the name Whole Child Whole World School, Inc., by a group of parents in 1991. All parents and employed teachers are voting members of the corporation. An elected Executive Board oversees general operation of the school. Parents and board members staff the Finance, Development, and Education & Facilities standing committees as well as other sub-committees as needed. The Executive Board meets monthly to conduct the business of the school. Executive Board meetings are held the first Monday of each month, and are open to all members of the corporation ( parents and employed staff ). Although only board members may vote, input is encouraged from all in attendance. A general membership meeting is scheduled every August. The general membership votes to fill seats on the Executive Board. At this meeting, the Executive Board reports on the status of the school and other business as required. "Community Meetings" are scheduled as the need arises to keep parents abreast of school news, issues, and developments. Parental involvement in the school community is encouraged through the "Parent Power" service requirement, Parent Workdays, and the Parent Education Program.
