Williams Academy Black History Museum
The Lee County Black History Society (LCBHS), established in 1994 by Janice Cass, aims to celebrate and preserve the African-American experience in Fort Myers, Florida. As a 501(c)(3) organization, LCBHS operates the Williams Academy Black History Museum, which showcases the rich history of the Dunbar community and its significant buildings, including the remnants of the first government-funded school for African-American students in Fort Myers.
Through various events such as Black History Month celebrations, the Legends Gala, and educational programs, LCBHS promotes awareness and appreciation of Black history and culture. The museum also offers opportunities for public engagement, including virtual tours and community involvement, fostering a platform for recognition and celebration of African-American heritage.
