Chiropractic is the non-surgical intervention of helping the body to function normally by influencing the neural pathways. This is done through manipulation of structures (bones). Sometimes vertebrae become misaligned causing irritation, compression, and stretching of the nerves. This can also cause problems with blood vessels, discs, ligaments, joints, muscles, and tendons. Nerves carry both electrical and chemical information throughout the body. The pinching of a nerve may cause pain. When I move the bones in a gentle fashion the nerves can function properly and generally the pain goes away. The funny thing is many of my patients previously had headaches, irritable bowel problems, constipation, difficulty breathing, etc. which they did not associate with nerves. They were surprised that these problems often went away even though they came in for treatment of low back pain. This is great for the patient. I love my job.
