The University of North Florida's Dolphin Research Program is dedicated to studying the population of Atlantic bottlenose dolphins residing in the St. Johns River estuarine waters of Jacksonville, Florida. Established in 2011, the program conducts systematic behavioral ecology research to address the impacts of human activity on these dolphins, particularly following an Unusual Mortality Event in 2010.

Through weekly vessel-based surveys, the research team has identified over 520 individual dolphins, contributing to a long-term photographic catalog that aids in understanding critical habitat areas, reproductive success, and social structures within the community. Collaborative efforts with the Northeast Florida Dolphin Research Consortium further enhance their research capabilities, enabling the assessment of dolphin population abundance in the region.
