About Texan Tire Co Texan Tire Co first began way back in 1962. Mel, a colorful character who had recently moved to South Florida from Boston, noticed that there were very few places that sold tires. He started small, with only a truck and delivered tires to various customers. He soon expanded and in 1962, opened his first tire store in Hollywood. Texan Tire Co in Florida? Mel had recently married a girl from Texas so he named the company in her honor. The business flourished and by 2004, after 42 years of selling tires, Mel decided to retire. He sold his business to Manuel and Susan in early 2005, but couldn't quite let go. He asked if he could work and stayed another 2 years. In April 2008, Texan Tire Co moved to its current address, 5932 Funston Street ( behind Arby's Restaurant on 441 just north of Pembroke Road ) in order to offer additional services of mounting, balancing, alignment and brakes to its many customers
