The St. Petersburg water resources department, previously known as the public utilities department, is involved in the treatment and distribution of potable drinking water for the residents of St. Petersburg, Fla. The department also collects and distributes treated wastewater for irrigation. The city s water system consists of more than 1,400 miles of collection mains, nearly 500 miles of laterals, treatment plants, more than 75 lift stations and approximately 19,400 manholes. In addition to providing water services to the city, the department also provides treatment of the wastewater for the cities of Gulfport, South Pasadena, Treasure Island, St. Pete Beach, Fort DeSoto and Tierra Verde in Florida. The St. Petersburg water resources department conducts its operations from offices in St. Petersburg.
