The medical director of the Surgical Weight Loss Center is Dr. Jeffrey Lord. He has advanced fellowship training and is a nationally recognized expert in the field of minimally invasive bariatric surgery. Since beginning his bariatric surgery practice in 1996, Dr. Lord has completed more than 3,500 bariatric procedures as the primary surgeon and has cared for more than 5,000 bariatric patients. Dr. Lord provides comprehensive evaluation of patients to determine their candidacy for these life-changing procedures, as well as extensive patient/family education to create a foundation for a healthy lifestyle. After earning his medical degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich., and completing his internship and residency at Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Va., Dr. Lord completed a one-year fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. His special medical interests are bariatric surgery to treat morbid obesity and training surgeons interested in this field. His interests also include metabolic and diabetic changes after surgery. Dr. Lord was previously the director of Minimally Invasive General and Bariatric Surgery at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Va.
