South Florida Water Management

The South Florida Water Management District is a regional government agency that provides flood control, water supply and environmental restoration services in more than 15 counties in Florida. It operates and maintains over 2,000 miles of canals and levees, and nearly 2,200 water control structures and pumping stations. The district manages and protects water resources for more than 7 million consumers in South Florida. The South Florida Water Management District is also involved in the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan project in the United States. The district restores floodplains along the Kissimmee River and revitalizes shoreline habitats. It offers planning, monitoring and security management services during emergency situations, such as flood, drought, wildfire and hurricanes. The South Florida Water Management District issues environmental resource permits.

The company offers ecosystem restoration, emergency management, environmental monitoring, simulation modeling, permitting, regulatory compliance, and canal and structure operation services. It additionally provides strategic planning, engineering, hurricane impact assessment and response services. The South Florida Water Management District has a staff of more than 200 trained damage assessment team members and is headquartered in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Palm Beach County Bridge Section is a specialized division of the Road and Bridge Division for the Palm Beach County Engineering and Public Works agency. Bridge Section is responsible for: maintenance of eight bascule bridges over the Intracoastal Waterway and one swing bridge at Point Chosen; and maintenance of 271 various types of fixed bridges, including interstate highway crossings, canal crossings, and pedestrian bridges. This maintenance includes electrical, mechanical and structural repairs. Bridge Section also conducts routine bridge inspections as required and oversees the maintenance and construction of guardrails on county roads. Finally, it constructs concrete sidewalks, storm drain structures, handicap ramps and upgrade bridge parapets. Palm Beach County is located in southeast Florida and has a population of more than 1 million residents.
