The Sanibel Police Department works to provide a safe and secure environment for the city residents and businesses. It operates operations and administrative services divisions. The department has a special services division that conducts follow-up and crime scene investigations, as well as supports the School Resource Officer Program. The Sanibel Police Department also provides fingerprinting, animal control, victim assistance and emergency preparedness services. It is additionally handles traffic and parking law enforcement and its emergency management division is responsible for response during hurricane and natural disaster. The department supports the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E) program, which focuses on the prevention of illegal usage of drugs, gang activities and violent behavior.
