Derek Papp, M.D., is a board-certified orthopedic sports medicine physician and orthopedic surgeon with Baptist Health Orthopedic Care. On a fun note, Dr. Papp served as Major League Baseball’s venue physician in Miami and Taichung, Taiwan during the 2023 World Baseball Classic (WBC) as well as in Seoul, Korea and Mexicali, Mexico during the 2017 WBC tournament and qualifier. Dr. Papp maintains his appointment as a part-time assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he provided clinical and surgical instruction to residents prior to joining Baptist Health. During his career, Dr. Papp has served as a course director at a multitude of international orthopedic educational conferences (including in Antarctica, scheduled to return in 2026), published numerous scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and presented many scientific papers at professional symposiums. He is an active member of several professional societies, including the Major League Baseball Team Physicians’ Association, American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, and Arthroscopy Association of North America, where he serves on the Education Committee.
