Rebeca C. Martinez, M.D., MHE, FACOG, is a board-certified gynecologist at Baptist Health Gynecology | FIU. She provides comprehensive gynecological care throughout a woman's life, including preventive care, treatment of conditions and management of menopause symptoms. Actively involved in teaching, advising and mentoring students, Dr. Martinez serves as chief, vice chair of education, assistant clerkship director and assistant clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. Dr. Martinez is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a member of the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics as well as other professional organizations. Dr. Martinez earned her medical degree at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She also earned a master’s in health ethics at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebr. Her clinical training includes an internship and a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Fla., where she was exposed to a high volume of maternal and reproductive health cases, including normal and high-risk deliveries and individuals from vulnerable populations. Certified in clinical bioethicists, Dr. Martinez has presented nationally and internationally at leading bioethics conferences. She believes that the combination of bioethics and clinical knowledge is the basis for good physician-patient relationships and social justice in medicine. To provide patient-centered care, she takes time to listen to her patient’s concerns, determine their goals and expectations, educate them on their self-care and medical options and provide them with the proper tools and guidance to be healthy. Dr. Martinez is fluent in English and Spanish. When she is not treating patients, she enjoys spending time with her family and daughters.

Aron W Berkman, MD

Aron Berkman, M.D., Ph.D., is a board-certified oncologist at Baptist Health Medical Oncology | FIU. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of solid tumors and benign and malignant hematologic disorders and has more than 45 years of experience. Dr. Berkman is the founding chief of medical oncology and an associate professor of translational medicine at FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. He also serves on several university advisory committees. Dr. Berkman has participated in clinical trials involving new drugs for the treatment of lymphoma and small cell lung cancer. His work has been published in high-impact medical journals and presented at national and international conferences. Dr. Berkman earned his medical degree and a Ph.D. in pharmacology at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. He completed an internal medicine residency at Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and a medical oncology fellowship at Johns Hopkins Oncology Center, both located in Baltimore, Md. He is a member of the American College of Physicians and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Committed to providing patient-centered care, Dr. Berkman establishes trusting physician-patient relationships with his patients and gives them the time they need to understand their medical diagnosis and treatment options and express their concerns. He also utilizes a multidisciplinary approach to patient care, helping patients realize that they are not alone in facing their medical problems.
