She also contributes to the scientific community by serving as an editor and reviewer for several medical journals and a member and committee member of several professional organizations. She is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Patient education is important to Dr. Slotcavage. To enable her patients to make the best decisions about their healthcare, she spends time helping them understand the disease process and the rationale behind the recommended therapy. This helps patients feel more empowered and better able to cope with uncomfortable symptoms or frequent appointments for treatment. Dr. Slotcavage is an avid cyclist, participating in road, cyclocross, and gravel cycling. She is also an avid baseball fan. She roots for her hometown Phillies and is on a quest to visit all 30 Major League Baseball parks. When she has spare time, Dr. Slotcavage enjoys reading and building Legos.
