Hillsborough County Citizen Boards Support

The Hillsborough County City-County Planning Commission is an independent agency that provides the citizens of Plant City, Temple Terrace and Tampa in Florida with a vision to improve the quality of life. It promotes and coordinates the involvement of citizens in long-range planning, growth management, transportation and environmental protection. The Hillsborough County City-County Planning Commission makes recommendations to the local jurisdictions. It offers services in the areas of land use, urban design, capital improvements, utilities, research and analysis, and community and neighborhood planning. The planning commission publishes a newsletter that includes data and articles on the community. It also administers the Community Design Awards program, which recognizes excellence in landscape architecture, environmental sensitivity and architectural design in building and development projects throughout Hillsborough County in Florida. In addition, the Hillsborough County City-County Planning Commission provides administrative and professional support services to the Transportation Disadvantaged Coordinating Board (TDCB) and the Hillsborough River Interlocal Planning Board & Technical Advisory Council.

The Hillsborough County Zoning Department s comprehensive plan sets the overall land uses for Hillsborough County, Fla., and the county's future land use map serves as the framework for efficient uses of land in the community. Zoning is a land use control that further protects property owners from undesirable and incompatible land uses in neighborhoods. Zoning and land development regulations provide a body of principles and standards adopted as a local law or ordinance that regulate property owners. It regulates appropriate land uses allowed in the community, density of development, appearance of development and the related infrastructure that supports development, such as the provision of water, sewer, transportation, parks, storm water and protection of natural resources, such as trees and wildlife. Also used by the division is the official zoning atlas that designates a zoning classification for each piece of property in the county. The Hillsborough County Zoning Department is located in Tampa, Fla.
