An internationally renowned expert in the application of both autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplantation for the treatment of leukemia, myelodysplastic syndrome, multiple myeloma and other lymphoproliferative diseases, Guenther Koehne, M.D., Ph.D., serves as deputy director and chief of Stem Cell Transplantation, Hematologic Oncology and Benign Hematology at Miami Cancer Institute, part of Baptist Health South Florida. Prior to joining the Institute in 2017, he was a leading physician in adult bone marrow transplantation at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York and an Associate Professor of medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Koehne is recognized for his work in adoptive immunotherapeutic approaches with antigen-specific, donor-derived T lymphocytes to treat viral complications following allogeneic transplants and the development of novel treatments for high-risk multiple myeloma, minimal residual disease of leukemia and relapsed disease post-allogeneic stem cell transplantation. A physician-scientist, Dr. Koehne has led the development and growth of the Institute’s outpatient and inpatient blood and bone marrow transplant program and is involved in numerous groundbreaking clinical trials.Dr. Koehne is Board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology. He received his medical degree and Ph.D. from Medical University of Hamburg, Germany, where he also trained as a resident in internal medicine. He completed an additional internal medicine residency at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. His extensive training also includes a medical oncology/hematology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and a research fellowship in the Immunology Program at the Sloan Kettering Institute for Cancer Research, Allogeneic Bone Marrow Transplantation Service. Dr. Koehne is a member of the American Society of Hematology, American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. He champions the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and has served as Chairman of the Light the Night Walk, the organization’s largest fundraiser.

He also completed a fellowship in radiation oncology at Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital, in Boston. He gained teaching experience as an assistant professor of radiation oncology at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, and currently trains his peers on an innovative treatment protocol for prostate cancer. Before joining Miami Cancer Institute, Dr. Fagundes was medical director of the Provision Center for Proton Therapy in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Murugesan Manoharan, MD

Murugesan Manoharan, M.D., FRACS, is a surgical urologic oncologist and the chief of urologic oncology surgery at Miami Cancer Institute. Dr. Manoharan specializes in the treatment of genitourinary cancers, including bladder, kidney, prostate and testicular cancer. Dr. Manoharan also serves as the chairman of the Department of Urology at Baptist Health South Florida and a professor of urology at Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, Florida International University.In 2022, the Abbhi Family Endowed Chair in Urologic Oncology was created to help Dr. Manoharan and the Institute conduct research and clinical trials to improve survival rates and quality of life for patients with bladder cancer.He joined Miami Cancer Institute from the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, where he served as one of the site disease group leaders for genitourinary cancers. He also practiced urology at Jackson Memorial Hospital and the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Miami.Dr. Manoharan is a renowned leader in the treatment of prostate cancer, kidney cancer, bladder cancer and other urologic malignancies. He is an expert in minimally invasive surgery, including nerve sparing robotic prostatectomy, robotic kidney surgery, robotic bladder removal and neobladder reconstruction. Dr. Manoharan was one of the first urologists in the United States to perform robotic bladder removal surgery and reconstruction of neobladder using a Pfannenstiel incision. He also specializes in other minimally invasive ablative cancer procedures, such as high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) therapy, cryotherapy and the NanoKnife procedure to treat prostate cancer. He has extensive experience training medical students, residents and oncology fellows. He has won numerous awards for his teaching and clinical excellence, as well as his research work. Dr. Manoharan’s research interests include stem cell applications, biomarkers and cancer outcomes. He serves as an editorial reviewer for several scientific publications. He is also widely published in peer-reviewed medical journals and is an invited speaker at national and international scientific symposiums. Dr. Manoharan has authored more than 140 scientific articles and 15 textbook chapters and has presented papers and posters at more than 100 national and international meetings. Rohan Garje, M.D., is a nationally renowned medical oncologist and the chief of genitourinary medical oncology at Miami Cancer Institute. Dr. Garje specializes in the treatment of prostate, kidney, bladder, testicular and penile cancer. Dr Garje has significant expertise in the design of novel investigator-initiated clinical trials and has served as the principal investigator for numerous phase I, II and III clinical trials. Dr. Garje is an internationally published leader in cancer research. He has amassed over 30 publications in prestigious journals, such as Journal of Clinical Oncology and the Journal of Immunotherapy for Cancer. At the Institute, he leads a team of medical oncologists actively involved in clinical research bringing industry-leading treatments to patients with genitourinary cancers. Before joining Miami Cancer Institute in 2022, Dr. Garje served as an associate professor of medicine in hematology and oncology at the University of Iowa/Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center.Dr. Garje is also the chair for the castration-resistant prostate cancer guidelines committee for the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
