Grandpa's Schnitzel

My grandfather, a trained butcher and cook, stands in the kitchen frying schnitzel. The smell of the roast meat also attracts the American soldiers. Everyone is very hungry and licks their lips. My grandfather calls the soldiers over and gives them his supply of schnitzel along with freshly baked bread. The Americans say thank you very much and move on. A few days later an American officer rings my grandfather's doorbell and asks him to come to the American headquarters. The commanding general immediately shows him a beautifully furnished kitchen and asks my grandfather to cook schnitzel and other German dishes for the entire regiment. My grandfather agreed and from then on he was the German “head chef” in the American army.
