History
Claudia L'Engle Adams moved to Jacksonville with her husband from Baltimore, MD. Mrs. Adams was a highly trained classical musician who studied at the Peabody Conservatory of Music. As a new resident of the city, she desired to meet new friends who shared her passion for music. In January, 1890, Mrs. Adams started hosting musical study and performance in her home off of Monroe Street. This grew to a formal club which was established in 1893 with Mrs. Adams as the first President. In the 1920's, the group purchased a gymnasium at 645 Oak Street which was called Concordia Hall. It was renamed Friday Musicale which became the permanent home of the organization. On March 25, 1995 the Auditorium was destroyed by arson fire. In 1998, the building was rebuilt where the organization continues it's great work in the community with Free Concerts, Musical Study and Scholarship Programs. The Auditorium & L'Engle Hall are both available to rent for private functions.
