The Institute is charged with many tasks that involve studying and working to save ecosystems, fresh and salt water fisheries and wildlife. Specifically, it has ongoing research projects and preservation efforts for the manatee, sea turtle and Florida panther. Institute scientists also study red tide, fish kills, non-native marine species and other challenges to the Florida marine and freshwater environment.
