Florida Department of Health, Highlands County Health Department

The Road and Bridge Department, operated by the government of Highlands County in Florida, is responsible for maintaining and repairing more than 970 miles of paved roads. The department also maintains over 200 miles of unpaved roads. It is responsible for the maintenance of the county s bridges, numerous drainage structures, retention ponds and canals. The department maintains nearly 3,000 drainage culverts throughout the county. In addition, the Road and Bridge Department is responsible for the maintenance of the county s fleet of equipment and vehicles. It oversees marl and shell pits and has a mechanic shop. The Road and Bridge Department constructs and paves approximately 3 miles of dirt roads annually.
