The Tavares Police Department works to preserve peace and reduce crime through the enforcement of local, state, and federal laws and ordinances. It is comprised of more than 40 sworn officers and civilians. The department operates patrol, criminal investigation, K-9, narcotics and administration divisions. The Tavares Police Department maintains a communication center that responds to various emergency and nonemergency calls. Its uniform patrol division conducts property checks and assists other units within the police department. The department also hosts vacation check and neighborhood crime watch programs. The Tavares Police Department additionally has code and traffic enforcement units. It supports Amber Alert, which is an emergency alert system that helps recover abducted children. The Reedy Creek Improvement District was created by the Florida Legislature in 1967 to provide a range of government services. The agency has expertise in the areas of emergency response, water control, public utilities, land use, building codes and financial services. It owns and operates collection and treatment systems for wastewater and solid waste products. The Reedy Creek Improvement District maintains a fleet of vehicles for the collection and transfer of recyclable and hazardous waste materials. The agency s personnel services department provides labor and employee relations consulting, employee counseling, staff recruitment and policy development solutions. In addition, it offers assistance with the selection of engineering, inspection and management professionals.
