Elias Dakwar, M.D., is a board-certified Baptist Health neurosurgeon and the medical director of the Deformity Spine Surgery program. He is skilled in complex spine reconstruction and treating degenerative spine conditions and spinal stenosis. Prior to joining Baptist Health, Dr. Dakwar served as an associate professor at the Cleveland Clinic Florida in the Head, Spine section of the Neurosurgery department and as the director of the Center for Spine Health in Weston, Fla. He earned his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry. Dr. Dakwar then completed his neurological surgery residency at the University of South Florida and his pediatric spinal deformity fellowship at the Shriners Hospital for Children in Philadelphia. Dr. Dakwar is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the Join Spine Section AANS/CNS and the North American Spine Society. Dedicated to providing patients a better quality of life, he takes the time to listen to patients, answer all questions and provide individualized treatment plans to provide the best possible outcomes. In his free time, Dr. Dakwar enjoys diving, fishing, and travelling.

He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. He is also a member of the American Academy of Neurological Surgeons, The Congress of Neurological Surgeons and The Neurosurgical Society of America. He has published work in more than 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts, chapters and books. As a neurosurgeon, Dr. Selman considers it a privilege to help his patients and their families deal with neurosurgical problems that can have such a profound impact on their lives. Amy Yu, M.D., is a board-certified neurologist at Baptist Health, specializing in neuroinflammatory diseases, with a focus on multiple sclerosis (MS). She serves as medical director of multiple sclerosis and neuroinflammation at Marcus Neuroscience Institute. She is fluent in English, Spanish and Mandarin.After earning her medical degree from the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine, Dr. Yu completed her neurology residency at Yale University, serving as chief resident. Prior to joining Baptist Health, Dr. Yu earned support from the National MS Society (NMSS) as a Clinical MS Fellow at Columbia University to develop her expertise in the study and treatment of MS and neuroimmunological disorders. Through her commitment to providing evidence-based, patient-focused care, Dr. Yu has earned various awards, including the 2023 Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers (CMSC) MS Mentorship Forum Scholarship. She is also invested in education and received the 2022 Columbia University Office of the Provost Innovative Course Design award to create an interactive neurology teaching module for Columbia University medical students. Her research on the discovery, application and efficacy of innovative therapies for neuroinflammatory conditions – particularly multiple sclerosis, systemic inflammatory diseases and neurotoxicity – can be found in peer-reviewed publications such as Neurology Clinical Practice and The Neurohospitalist. By combining new and advanced therapies with holistic wellness, Dr. Yu creates individualized care plans to help her patients reach their fullest potential. As a potential lifelong partner to her patients with chronic illness, she supports them through every step of their journey.
