History

In 2004, brothers Yair and Jonathan Marcoschamer were joined by their mother Helen and sister-in-law Gabriela on a trip to Mexico. During their stay they were exposed to some fascinating handbags created by Mexican artisans of post-consumer waste, such as candy wrappers and chip bags. Inspired by this concept, the entrepreneurial brothers flew back to their Miami based home and decided to develop a business making products from waste-bound materials, embracing the philosophy of the triple bottom line: Profit, people, and Planet.

Specialties

Founded in 2004, Ecoist develops fashion accessories for the eco-minded individual. The company's objective is to merge design with social and environmental consciousness to provide stylish, functional, and durable products. Ecoist handbags are made from recycled candy wrappers, food packages, soda labels, subway maps, newspapers, and other waste-bound materials. We collect waste and turn it into eye-catching handbags that you will simply love to own.
