Dr. Shavonne T D Ramsey Coleman, MD

Manuel Ozambela, Jr., M.D., is a urologic surgical oncologist at Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute. He specializes in the treatment of cancers that arise from the genitourinary system (urinary and reproductive systems), including kidney, bladder, prostate, testicular and penile cancers. He is fluent in English and Spanish. After earning his medical degree from Harvard Medical School, Dr. Ozambela completed his urologic surgery training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in the Harvard Program in Urology. He received both the Exceptional Resident Award and the Award in Academic Excellence for his outstanding clinical performance and academic achievements. Prior to joining Baptist Health, Dr. Ozambela completed his fellowship in urologic oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. During the fellowship, he worked with a multidisciplinary group of investigators to study rare and aggressive kidney tumors with the goal of identifying novel treatment options. He has authored multiple scientific abstracts, manuscripts and book chapters on various topics in urologic oncology. Through his research, he strives to identify new diagnostic and treatment options for genitourinary cancers, improve patient recovery after surgery and enhance his patients’ quality of life.Understanding that he often meets patients during significantly stressful moments, Dr. Ozambela takes time to talk through diagnoses and treatment options. Through excellent communication and shared decision-making, he works with his patients to create treatment plans that reflect their individual goals. Dr. Ozambela is a South Florida native and enjoys spending time with his growing family when not taking care of patients.

Alex Mejia Garcia, M.D., is a board-certified hematologist at Miami Cancer Institute, part of Baptist Health. Dr. Mejia Garcia specializes in treating lymphoma and multiple myeloma. He is fluent in English and Spanish and conversational in Portuguese. Dr. Mejia Garcia joined Miami Cancer Institute from the Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Institute, where he worked in the Department of Hematologic Oncology and Blood Disorders. While at the Cleveland Clinic, he specialized in treating lymphomas, multiple myeloma and specially, researching and studying a subtype of lymphoma called Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia. Dr. Mejia Garcia completed a fellowship in cancer drug development at UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center. During that time, he directed the early-phase drug development for hematological malignancies program at that institution. He also holds formal and specific training in clinical pharmacology and early phase drug development from Thomas Jefferson University. He has served as the conducting principal investigator in several national clinical trials and in industry-sponsored trials for new lymphoma drugs. Dr. Mejia Garcia’s research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed publications, including Clinical Cancer Research, Cancer Chemotherapy and Pharmacology, the European Journal of Cancer, Cancer, and the Journal of Clinical Medicine Research. Dr. Mejia Garcia takes a holistic, team-oriented and patient-centered approach to cancer treatment. He considers not only the disease state, but also each person’s overall health, social support network, culture and treatment goals. He also utilizes the latest in cancer research to provide the best possible treatment options for each patient. He is passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of his patients and their families. Michael McDermott, M.D., is a neurosurgeon, the Irma & Kalman Bass Endowed Chair in Clinical Neuroscience and the chief medical executive of Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute. He is a world-renowned leader in neurosciences and has clinical expertise in the field of meningioma surgery and Gamma Knife radiosurgery.Dr. McDermott is widely known for advancing neurosurgical techniques and is an expert in the treatment of a wide variety of neurological disorders. He is the world’s leading expert in meningioma, the most common primary brain tumor in adults.Dr. McDermott joined Baptist Health from UCSF Medical Center, where he served as co-director of the Gamma Knife radiosurgery and skull base surgery programs, vice chairman of clinical programs from 2001-2012 and held the Wolfe Family Endowed Professor in Meningioma Research.Throughout his career, Dr. McDermott’s research has generated more than 400 peer-reviewed publications. In addition to his clinical and research leadership, he is an accomplished educator.
