Cesar Ochoa, M.D., is a medical oncologist at Miami Cancer Institute, part of Baptist Health. Dr. Ochoa specializes in the treatment of lung, head and neck cancers. He is fluent in English and Spanish. Prior to joining Miami Cancer Institute in 2021, Dr. Ochoa was on staff at the Billings Clinic Cancer Center, where he worked as a medical oncologist. Throughout his career, Dr. Ochoa has been involved in research focusing on the role of intrinsic and extrinsic airway inflammation in the development and growth of lung cancer. This work has had major implications in the improvement of currently available therapies to better understand lung cancer. Dr. Ochoa’s research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed publications, including Cancer Research, Cancer Prevention Research, Molecular Cancer, Oncoimmunology, Expert Review of Anticancer Therapy and others. He has also presented his work at multiple national and international conferences. Dr. Ochoa believes that the needs of his patients always come first. He strives to help them understand their disease, prognosis and treatment options while learning about their personal goals and what matters most to them. This way, together, they can develop a management plan that aligns with the patient’s values.When he is not treating patients, Dr. Ochoa enjoys reading, music, exploring the outdoors and visiting new restaurants.

Juan Pretell, M.D., is a musculoskeletal oncology surgeon and the chief of musculoskeletal oncology surgery at Miami Cancer Institute. Dr. Pretell specializes in benign and malignant musculoskeletal tumors and skin cancers affecting the musculoskeletal system. He is fluent in English and Spanish.Prior to joining Miami Cancer Institute in 2022, Dr. Pretell worked at University of Miami where he was an Associate Professor of Orthopedic and Faculty of the Orthopedic Surgery residency program and Musculoskeletal Oncology Fellowship. He also was the director of clinical research in the Division of Musculoskeletal Oncology Surgery.Dr. Pretell’s research has been published in high-impact national and international orthopedic and oncology journals. He has been a speaker in national and international meetings, and faculty for international Musculoskeletal Oncology courses. He is an active member of the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society and fellow of the AAOS. He is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons.Dr. Pretell’s approach to patient care is to view patients and their families as his own family members. He is honest and open about the diagnosis and the treatment options available with the most current, evidence-based medicine. When he is not treating patients, Dr. Pretell enjoys going to arcades, cooking classes and entertainment activities with his oldest stepson and his triplets, watching movies with his oldest daughter, traveling and taking beach walks with his wife. He is also an avid World Cup soccer fan.

Sarbajit Mukherjee, M.D., MS, is a board-certified gastrointestinal medical oncologist and chief of gastrointestinal medical oncology at Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of cancers of the gastrointestinal tract. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, hematology and medical oncology. Prior to joining Miami Cancer Institute, Dr. Mukherjee was an associate professor of oncology and associate professor of immunology and served as co-leader of the gastrointestinal translational research group at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, N.Y. Dr. Mukherjee has led numerous clinical trials as a principal investigator. Many of his studies are grant-funded by organizations such as the National Cancer Institute and the U.S. Department of Defense. The goal of his work is to understand the biology of gastrointestinal cancers and develop novel clinical trials aimed at enhancing patients' quality of life and extending their lifespan. His research interests also include the mechanisms of immune dysfunction in obese cancer patients and the use of immune checkpoint inhibitors in solid tumors. Dr. Mukherjee presents his research at national and international symposiums and publishes his results in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals. He is also an invited editorial reviewer of manuscripts for prestigious medical journals and grant applications for federal funding agencies. He is the recipient of numerous awards for his expertise in clinical practice, scientific research and the education of medical professionals. He is an active member of several professional associations and has served on committees for the American Society of Clinical Oncology, among others, as well as on institutional committees. Dr. Mukherjee earned his medical degree at Nilratan Sircar Medical College, West Bengal University of Health Sciences in India. He gained experience in translational research and clinical trial design through a master's program in clinical and translational science at the University of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City. His clinical training includes an internal medicine residency at Saint Joseph Hospital in Chicago and a hematology-oncology fellowship at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. For Dr. Mukherjee, supporting a cancer patient goes beyond just addressing the illness; it is an impactful healing journey that fully engages the patient’s physical health, mental well-being and support system. He strives to be a compassionate physician, successful clinical and translational researcher and thought leader in the field of gastrointestinal cancers.
