The objective of the Seminole County Sheriff's Office is to provide an optimum level of service to the citizens of this county. It is therefore, the mission of this agency to enhance the quality of life for citizens by reducing both crime and the fear of crime throughout Seminole County. The responsibility of this Office is to reach beyond the typical reactive law enforcement role to protect and serve, to reach beyond proactive law enforcement, and to become coactive with the citizens of Seminole County. In this role, we, as the members of Sheriff's Office, will improve the quality of life for the citizens of Seminole County. We seek to reduce not only crime itself but the fear of crime. We seek to fortify the public trust from which our authority is derived. We seek to be more accountable by allowing more public input into the ways in which our services are planned and provided. We seek to be more resourceful, imaginative, and aggressive in our approach to crime. By doing so, we encourage the public to become an involved partner. As a public service agency, we will streamline and remove barriers that are typical of inaccessible bureaucracies. We will work with the community in obtaining assistance and resources from other agencies, both public and private. We shall provide a public service, and through that endeavor, establish Sheriff's Office as a facilitator for quality of life issues - not just a provider of basic law enforcement service. The Tavares Police Department works to preserve peace and reduce crime through the enforcement of local, state, and federal laws and ordinances. It is comprised of more than 40 sworn officers and civilians. The department operates patrol, criminal investigation, K-9, narcotics and administration divisions. The Tavares Police Department maintains a communication center that responds to various emergency and nonemergency calls. Its uniform patrol division conducts property checks and assists other units within the police department. The department also hosts vacation check and neighborhood crime watch programs. The Tavares Police Department additionally has code and traffic enforcement units. It supports Amber Alert, which is an emergency alert system that helps recover abducted children. The department maintains a sex offender registry and provides information regarding missing children and homeland security. It is located in Tavares, Fla.
