The City of Miami's historic preservation program is dedicated to the identification, evaluation, rehabilitation, adaptive use, and restoration of the city's architectural and archaeological heritage. Operating under Chapter 23 of the City Code, the program emphasizes the protection and preservation of Miami's historic sites and districts, offering detailed guidelines and standards for property owners.

Managed by the Historic and Environmental Preservation Board, the program adopts the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation to guide decision-making in modifications to historic buildings. Additionally, the board provides specific design guidelines tailored to various historic districts, ensuring that Miami's rich cultural resources are carefully preserved for future generations.
