Caballero Rivero Woodlawn North was established in 1913 by three pioneers in Miami’s early history – Thomas O. Wilson, William N. Urmey and Clifton D. Benson. They imported rare tropical trees and shrubs to this country for the cemetery, including the first schefflera (umbrella) and mahogany trees. Today, Caballero Rivero Woodlawn North is among the nation’s most beautiful cemeteries. The cemetery is an official bird sanctuary, and many of the cemetery’s trees and plants are home to several different species of birds throughout the gardens.
