Aviva Abosch, M.D., Ph.D., is a fellowship-trained, board-certified neurosurgeon and serves as deputy director of Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute as well as the Institute’s director of epilepsy surgery and co-director of functional neurosurgery. A leading surgeon-scientist in the field of neurosurgery, she performs advanced surgical procedures to treat such conditions as epilepsy, movement disorders, brain tumors and psychiatric conditions. Prior to joining Baptist Health, Dr. Abosch served as department chair and the Nancy A. Keegan and Donald R. Voelte, Jr. chair of Neurosurgery at the University of Nebraska Medical Center as well as co-director of Nebraska Medicine neurosciences service line. She continues to be committed to broadening educational opportunities for students, trainees and practitioners at all levels. Dr. Abosch’s research focuses on therapeutic modulation of brain pathways for the treatment of epilepsy and movement and neuropsychiatric disorders. She has been involved in numerous clinical trials for surgical treatments related to epilepsy, movement disorders and neuropsychiatric conditions. Her research has received funding from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health and intramural and industry sources. She is widely published and speaks nationally and internationally on her areas of clinical and research expertise. Dedicated to contributing to the scientific community, Dr. Abosch has held multiple editorial roles in the field of neurosurgery and currently serves as associate editor of Neurosurgery and reviewer for several medical publications. She holds leadership roles on many national and international committees and organizations, including secretary of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, and is past president of both the American Society of Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery and of Women in Neurosurgery. Dr. Abosch earned her medical degree and a Ph.D. in neurobiology from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She completed a general surgery internship and a neurosurgery residency at the University of California in San Francisco. Her clinical training also includes a fellowship in epilepsy surgery at Montreal Neurological Institute, McGill University in Montreal, Quebec and an additional fellowship in functional and stereotactic neurosurgery at Toronto Western Hospital, University of Toronto. Dr. Abosch is committed to providing compassionate, patient-centered care. He has published more than 40 peer-reviewed articles in publications, including the Journal of Stroke & Cerebrovascular Diseases, Stroke, Neurosurgery, and the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry. He has presented at numerous national and international industry events and conferences. He has also helped start stroke programs in Latin American and the Caribbean. Dr. De Los Rios La Rosa is a fellow of the American Heart Association and has served in academic appointments at the University of Cincinnati and Florida International University. Dr. De Los Rios La Rosa bases his approach to patient care on the principles of autonomy and respect. He strives to provide individualized, patient-specific recommendations. Evan Douglas Bander, MD

Evan D. Bander, M.D., is a neurosurgeon, director of endoscopic skull base surgery and co-director of the pituitary tumor program at Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute. He specializes in cranial neurosurgery with a subspecialty focus on brain tumors. He treats both benign and malignant tumors, including skull base tumors, meningiomas, pituitary tumors, craniopharyngiomas, primary brain tumors (gliomas and glioblastoma) and secondary brain tumors (metastases). He is fellowship trained in minimally invasive, keyhole and endoscopic approaches as well as in neurosurgical oncology at two of the leading cancer centers in the country. Dr. Bander earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Neurobiology and Behavior, magna cum laude, from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. He completed his medical degree at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York, N.Y., while also receiving a prestigious Howard Hughes Medical Institute Medical Research Fellowship. During his seven years of training at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical College and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, he completed a neurological surgery residency, served as chief resident, completed a Leon Levy Neuroscience Research Fellowship as well as a Minimally Invasive Skull Base Surgery Fellowship under the mentorship of internationally renowned neurosurgeon, Dr. Theodore Schwartz. Dr. Bander’s training also includes a neurosurgical oncology fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Department of Neurological Surgery/Brain & Spine Center in Houston, Texas. To advance the fields of neurosurgery and neurosurgical oncology, Dr. Bander conducts extensive clinical and translational research. He has received numerous awards for his research accomplishments and his work has been widely published in peer-reviewed medical journals, including Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Cancer, Neurosurgery, Journal of Neurosurgery and Journal of Neuro-Oncology. He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and Congress of Neurological Surgeons. Recognizing that his patients are facing one of the most difficult times in their lives, Dr. Bander offers an empathetic and patient-centered care approach. He partners with his patients and his multidisciplinary cancer and pituitary care teams to restore his patients’ health, honor their priorities and attain the best outcomes possible.
