Area Agency on Aging-Florida

Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida, established in 1978, is a nonprofit organization sponsored by the Florida Department of Elder Affairs. As per the Older Americans Act of 1965, the agency is responsible for planning, implementing and promoting services to help keep elders live independently in their own homes and communities. The organization provides a wide range of services including case management, caregiver training, companionship, congregate meals, counseling, emergency alert response, home delivered meals, health support, respite care and transportation. It is funded through a variety of state, federal and local sources. Its elder help line services addresses the concerns, issues and needs of population aged 60 and above. The agency s trained volunteers provide older adults with information on the availability of best insurance and prescription plans.
