Michael Swartzon, M.D., is a sports medicine physician with a dual board certification in family and sports medicine. He cares for active people, athletes and individuals with musculoskeletal conditions. He is an important player on your health team with significant specialized training in treatment and prevention of illness and injury to help you lead a healthier lifestyle. Dr. Swartzon cares for youth athletes, weekend warriors, active individuals, elite athletes and nonathletes alike. He can maximize non-operative treatment, guide referrals to physical and occupational therapies and if necessary, expedite an appointment to a surgeon for treatment. Dr. Swartzon is an associate professor for Florida International University as well as an affiliate professor for Nova Southeastern University and program director for Baptist Healths primary care sports medicine fellowship program. He is published in several medical journals and regularly presents at national conferences focused on sports medicine research. He has significant experience with professional athletes as a team physician for the Miami Dolphins, Florida Panthers and a tournament physician for the Miami Open. He is the co-medical director for the Miami Marathon & Half Marathon. Additionally, he cares for a variety of collegiate teams such asBarry University and St. Thomas University. Previously, Dr. Swartzon provided medical care for El Clsico Barcelona vs Real Madrid, the World Golf Championship, the University of New Mexico Lobos basketball team, Mountain West conference championship, NCAA Mens Basketball Tournament, New Mexico state rodeo and the USA Track and Field Indoor Championship. His specialties include stem cell, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and amniotic regenerative orthobiological therapy. He performs orthopedic ultrasound diagnostics and ultrasound-guided procedures. He is also a certified FAA Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) and performs physicals for pilots. As a South Florida native, Dr. Swartzon is an avid fan of local sports teams.

Maria Kyriacou, M.D., is a primary care sports medicine physician at Baptist Health Orthopedic Care. Dr. Kyriacou specializes in non-surgical treatments for acute, overuse and chronic orthopedic problems. She has a special interest in sports-related injuries, joint arthritis, musculoskeletal ultrasound, and ultrasound-guided procedures. During her fellowship training, Dr. Kyriacou was involved in stem cell, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and amniotic regenerative orthobiologic therapy. She is fluent in English, Spanish and Greek. During her fellowship, Dr. Kyriacou was part of the medical team for the Miami Dolphins, Florida International University, St. Thomas University and Barry University. She currently serves as a team physician for Florida International University. In 2019, Dr. Kyriacou was named Resident Teacher of the Year at Phoebe Health. She has also presented at a number of sports medicine conferences and meetings.Dr. Kyriacou served as the medical director for the Sneakers Marathon in Albany, Georgia in 2018 and as the event physician for Escape to Miami and Lifetime Miami Marathon in 2019. Dr. Kyriacou provides exceptional patient care by treating her patients as if they were family. She strives to listen to each patient to determine the best approach to treatment. When she is not treating patients, Dr. Kyriacou enjoys traveling, playing soccer, kayaking, running and spending time with her family.

Charles Lawrie, M.D., is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon at Baptist Health Orthopedic Care. Dr. Lawrie specializes in adult hip and knee joint replacement surgery, including hip resurfacing, anterior approach hip replacement, robotic-assisted partial and total knee replacement, and revision joint replacement. He has a particular interest in cementless total knee replacement, total joint replacement in young, active individuals, and the use of technology throughout the episode of care to improve outcomes for hip and knee replacement surgical care.Dr. Lawrie joined Miami Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute from Washington University School of Medicine, where he served as an assistant professor in the Joint Preservation, Resurfacing and Replacement Division of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery. He is passionate about improving patient experience and outcomes through research, education and clinical excellence.Dr. Lawrie leads cutting-edge research in his field. He holds a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation. He routinely publishes and presents at national conferences his clinical research on hip and knee arthroplasty. His research has been published in peer-reviewed publications, including The Journal of Arthroplasty, The Bone & Joint Journal, The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery and The Annals of Joint. He also reviews scientific research articles for several medical journals, including the Journal of Arthroplasty, Arthroplasty Today, the Journal of Orthopedic Translation and Annals of Joint.Dr. Lawrie is actively involved in designing and developing technology and implants for hip and knee replacement to improve patient outcomes. He serves as a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons Digital Health Committee. He is also a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and The Phi Beta Kappa Society. Dr. Lawrie is dedicated to patient-centered care. He tries to understand their story as a person, and then their hip and knee problems, the effect it has on their lifestyle and their goals for treatment.
