The U.S. Department of the Interior is a conservation agency. It operates more than 2,300 locations across the United States and Puerto Rico. The department protects and provides access to the U.S. states natural and cultural heritage. It honors the departments trust responsibilities to American Indians and Alaska Natives. The department conducts scientific research, as well as fosters sound use of land and water resources. It is also responsible for the conservation and protection of fish and wildlife. The U.S. Department of the Interior offers services related to the fields of energy, mineral, grazing, timber, recreation and land sales. It operates Bureau of Land Management, which manages over 255 million acres of land.
