Washington, D.C. s Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is structured much like a private law firm, with sections devoted to specific legal specialties. It consists of nine major divisions: appellate, child support enforcement, civil litigation, commercial, family services, legal counsel, immediate office, public safety and support services. These divisions represent the District of Columbia in the D.C. Superior Court, United States District Court, the D.C. Court of Appeals, U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. The OAG has approximately 240 attorneys as well as 230 legal assistants, secretaries, investigators and other professional staff. The OAG is under the direction of the mayor s office.
