Ali Rai, M.D., is an infectious disease physician with Johns Hopkins Community Physicians. Dr. Rai has knowledge and expertise in helping patients work through and treat a wide-range of conditions and complex infectious disease challenges. A typical day for him could include treating a patient with a neurosurgery hydatid cyst in the morning and then working on a Naegleria case in the ICU in the afternoon. He enjoys the unique opportunity of working with both patients and medical colleagues in the hospital and clinical setting, and across the spectrum of age, disease and medical specialties. Dr. Rai is a firm believer in the bench-to-bedside approach to medicine. He believes evidence-based approaches to medicine should always dictate the highest quality of care for his patients to ensure the best outcomes. He is proud to be a part of the Johns Hopkins health system where patient care comes first and is unmatched. Dr. Rai had the unique opportunity of growing up in different cultures and training in different settings, which allows him to connect and provide care to a diverse group of patients. Wendy Chen, MD

Wendy Chen is an assistant professor in the Johns Hopkins Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. She is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Her clinical expertise includes hand and wrist surgery and breast reconstruction, including post-mastectomy, as well as gender affirming top surgeries. Dr. Chen received her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, where she was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Society. In 2022, she was recognized as a Texas Super Doctors Rising Stars, a 40 Under 40 Houston Business Journal honoree, an Association of Women Surgeons 40 Under 40 honoree, a UT Health Houston McGovern Medical School 2022 Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award/Champion of Clinical Learning Environment, and she won the inaugural John P. and Kathrine G. McGovern Distinguished Faculty Award in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Dr. Chen is passionate about medical education and activism for diversity in surgery, for which she is a frequent national speaker and serves on multiple national committees. She has numerous publications and international presentations, and has won many awards for her work in clinical, basic science and education research.

Jason C. Nellis, MD

Jason Nellis is a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon in the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Johns Hopkins. He grew up in Maryland and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Maryland, then earned his medical degree at the University of Virginia. Subsequently, he completed residency training in otolaryngology–head and neck surgery at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.After completing residency, Dr. Nellis spent a year pursuing advanced training in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery at Johns Hopkins and in Japan with Satoru Nagata, further broadening his expertise in microtia reconstruction, facial reanimation, rhinoplasty, and microvascular head and neck reconstruction. He went on to complete an American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery fellowship at the University of Minnesota with former academy president Peter Hilger and Harley Dresner, which included specialty training in rhinoplasty, aesthetic facial plastic surgery, total nasal reconstruction, Mohs reconstructive surgery, microvascular head and neck reconstruction, and facial reanimation. This fellowship also encompassed pediatric head and neck reconstruction, including otoplasty and cleft lip and palate repair. He has extensive training in cosmetic facial surgery, including facelift, blepharoplasty, brow lift and other facial rejuvenation procedures.Dr. Nellis is passionate about international mission work helping patients with facial deformities, including pediatric facial deformities, such as cleft lip and palate, and adults with congenital and traumatic facial deformities.
