History

MahoganyBooks was founded in 2007 as an online bookstore that also hosted book signings and other literary events that focused on connecting readers to writers and building community. In 2017, MahoganyBooks opened its first bookstore in the Historic Anacostia area, becoming the first bookstore in this area in over 20 years.

Specialties

MahoganyBooks provides a unique literary experience where readers from all backgrounds can find a wide variety of books written for, by, or about people of the African Diaspora. MahoganyBooks also holds a variety of literary focused events ranging from children's story time to writing workshops, book club meetings, and author book talks.
