Dr. Katherine Lamond is the Medical Director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Bariatrics Surgery at Sibley Memorial Hospital and Assistant Professor of Surgery for Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She specializes in laparoscopic bariatric surgery, and performs the Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, Sleeve Gastrectomy and Adjustable Gastric Banding at Sibley. She is also a surgeon with Johns Hopkins Surgery at Sibley, where she practices general surgery and advanced laparoscopic surgery.Dr. Lamond grew up in Maryland and attended Dartmouth College for her undergraduate education, before moving back to the area to attend Georgetown University School of Medicine. Her internship and residency in General Surgery were completed at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. She then completed a fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery.More recently, Dr. Lamond served as Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine from 2012-2015, prior to transitioning her practice to Sibley Memorial Hospital.She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is active in both the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Her expertise includes thyroid surgery for nodules, goiters, Graves disease, thyroid cancer and minimally invasive parathyroidectomy, surgery for persistent or recurrent hyperparathyroidism and laparoscopic adrenalectomy. She believes in providing state of the art, patient-centered multi-disciplinary care for complex endocrine surgical issues.Dr. Mathur serves on multiple committees of major national societies including the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, the American Thyroid Association, and the American College of Surgeons.As a surgeon-scientist, Dr. Mathur directs a research group, funded by the National Institutes of Health, that studies voice and swallowing outcomes after thyroidectomy in older adults. Her research also focuses on understanding the link between hyperparathyroidism and other health conditions including cognitive impairment, cardiovascular disease and post-transplant outcomes. Dr. Mathur has numerous prestigious national research awards and grants, and she has published over 50 peer reviewed articles, reviews and book chapters. She is frequently invited to present her research at national and international meetings.
