Great River Tendai Sangha is a welcoming Buddhist temple community in the Washington, DC metro area, encompassing members from Virginia, Maryland, and DC. Our practice is rooted in the teachings of Tendai-shu Buddhism, open to individuals from all walks of life. Join us weekly for a service combining chanting liturgy and meditation, held at the Nipponzan Miyohoji Buddhist Temple DC on Sunday mornings.

As we continue to grow, we are actively seeking an affordable meeting space in the Alexandria/Arlington/Northern Virginia region to expand our offerings. Keep an eye on our diverse Calendar for updates on in-person and online gatherings, as well as engaging events like retreats, potlucks, nature walks, film viewings, and communal outings. Our ordained leader is available for ceremonies such as weddings and funerals, fostering an inclusive environment for all, including LGBTQIA+ individuals.
