History
Gearin' Up was established in 2012 as a youth earn-a-bike program and quickly grew. In the Spring of 2014, we opened up our first outdoor shop on Bladensburg Road in NE, DC. The overwhelming community responded allowed us to grow into our current space in the fall of 2014 on the Metropolitan Branch Trail in Eckington, NE, DC. Gearin' Up Bicycles' purpose is to create career development opportunities and teach essential workplace skills to teenagers from underserved communities, while encouraging cycling as a practical, healthy means of transportation. Gearin' Up provides access to quality, affordable, used bicycles for those in need and hosts various community outreach programs throughout the year.
