Arlington Memorial Bridge serves as a symbolic and architectural link between the North and South, bridging the Potomac River to connect the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., with Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. Opened in 1932, the bridge is renowned for its neoclassical design and memorials that honor the sacrifices of military personnel throughout American history.

Recently rehabilitated between 2018 and 2020, the bridge stands as a testament to national unity and resilience, highlighted by its ceremonial entrance featuring monuments and memorials along Memorial Avenue. Visitors can enjoy scenic walks or bike rides across the bridge, which is designed to honor the valor and sacrifices of those who served the nation.

The trail goes on for miles and it does offer fantastic views of the canal. The paths are spacious and having separate ones for pedestrians and cyclists is a luxury.

Historisch kanaalgebied. Romantisch als je er voor in de stemming bent. Doet denken aan de canals in Birmingham UK.
