Established in 1884, the Central Union Mission is one of the oldest social service ministries in the United States. It administers a residential rehabilitation program that helps men to overcome drug and alcohol addiction and destructive behaviors. The ministry s Spiritual Transformation program can have an enrollment of up to 50 men and involves them in systematic Bible study, biblical counseling, regular drug testing and work therapies. It also conducts English as a Second Language, literacy and general educational development classes, as well as provides instruction in computers. The Central Union Mission s Hispanic ministry offers individual counseling and support services. In addition, it organizes several special events, such as luncheons, men s overnight birthday parties, walkathons, summer camps and Christmas day dinners. The Central Union Mission is located in Washington, D.C.
